Australian Deputy Prime Minister speaks about “Women in Leadership” at Lady Shri Ram College
Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ms Julia Gillard, today addressed around 300 young Indian students at Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram College on the topic of “Women in Leadership”.
“Lady Shri Ram College has established an enviable reputation over the past 52 years for educating India’s future women leaders so I was delighted to have this opportunity to engage with its students during my first official visit to India,” said Ms Gillard.
The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about her career in politics, the challenges she faces as Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and provided advice about the challenges and opportunities that young woman may face building their future careers.
Ms Gillard was greeted by the Principal of the college, Dr Meenakshi Gopinath, and was able to meet some of the alumni of the College’s long standing student exchange program with La Trobe University in Victoria, Australia.
“As Australia’s Minister for Education, I was keen to meet with the students of one of India’s premier colleges for women, some of India’s future leaders. Ms Gillard added that “I wish to thank the College for providing me with this opportunity”.
Ms Gillard is also Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and Minister for Social Inclusion.
