Notarial Services

Notarial services are only available where the documents are Australian in origin or intended for use in Australia. Please ensure you provide correct written instructions to our staff. 

Fees

Current Notarial Service Fees

  • Fees apply to notarial services under the Consular Fees Act of 1955.
  • Consular staff have no discretion in applying these fees and are linked to the AUD/INR exchange rate and are re-aligned monthly. 

Parking is not available for visitors in the grounds.

Notarial Services we can provide

  • Certifying copies of original Australian documents or documents intended for use in Australia
  • issuing an Authentication or Apostille certificate 

    (verifying a signature, stamp, or seal on an Australian public document)

  • witnessing of signatures on certain Australian documents
  • the taking of Australian Statutory declarations being made for use in Australia by an Australian entity.
  • the administering of affidavits, oaths, and affirmations for use in Australian court or legal proceedings
  • issuing a Certificate of no Impediment to marry in India (refer to Getting Married in India for further information)

Book an appointment with Australian High Commission, New Delhi using Setmore

Booking Policy

Applicants should appear at the High Commission's public entrance for security screening 10 minutes before the appointment time.  You will be admitted to the High Commission no earlier than 15 minutes before your appointment time and your appointment may be forfeited if you arrive late.

We request that you do not book more than one appointment.  Refer to your notification email if you need to amend or cancel your appointment (see example below).  Clients who book multiple appointments may have their appointments cancelled. 

Notarial Services we cannot provide

  • Witness a statutory declaration or provide a letter which declares your address in India, including to open an Indian bank account, obtain an Indian driver’s licence or transfer motor vehicle registration. *
  • Witness your signature on a statutory declaration or document for use outside Australia.
  • Provide a Letter of No Objection.

Letters of No Objection

The Australian High Commission in New Delhi does not issue personalised letters of no objection for individual Australian citizens. Instead, Australian citizens in need of a letter of no objection can download our universal letter of no objection, free of charge. 

 

Notarial services by mail

Only the following notarial services are available by mail:

  • Certifying copies of original Australian documents or documents intended for use in Australia
  • issuing an Authentication or Apostille certificate (verifying a signature, stamp, or seal on an Australian public document)

Note:

  • For certified copies or authentications/Apostille services by mail, please send in the original documents.
  • Delivery is to an Indian mailing address only.
  • Please include a pre-addressed envelope/satchel (no postage/stamp required). We will send your documents back to you via Courier/ Indian Speed Post (please note that the High Commission takes no responsibility for mail lost in the postal service).
  • Ensure you include the correct written instructions from the receiving authority of your documents.
  • For certified copies, there is no need to send photocopies; we will take photocopies from the originals that you provide.

 

Fees for notarial services lodged by mail must be paid through Glider Pay (link for the payment will be provided by the High Commission). Ensure you send it in with your documents addressed to:

We aim to return documents within five working days (excluding postage/delivery time). Incomplete applications will cause delays and may be returned unprocessed.

PRIVACY POLICY

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) uses third-party software (Setmore) to manage the High Commission's appointments. Your personal information (including your name and contact details) will be collected by DFAT via Setmore to book your appointment and for related purposes. By proceeding with a booking, you are consenting to the collection of this information by Setmore on DFAT's behalf for these purposes.  If this information is not collected, DFAT's ability to arrange your appointment will be limited.  Your personal information will be handled by Setmore in accordance with Setmore's Privacy Policy, and by DFAT in accordance with DFAT's Privacy Policy.
