Oz Fest is firing up THE AUSSIE BBQ in India

Australia's hottest bands are packing their bags for a four-city tour of India taking in Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi. The bands are touring as part of Oz Fest - the biggest Australian cultural festival ever staged in India

Prog rock giants Karnivool will headline the Aussie onslaught, which will also feature indie outfit Big Scary, DJ duo The Aston Shuffle from the next wave of Australia’s emerging electronic elite, Jinja Safari with their afro-pop rhythms and tumbling island guitar grooves, and Sheppard one of Australia’s newest indie pop bands known for their catchy lyrics.

Karnivool vocalist Ian Kelly said “we share a philosophy that music allows us to see different parts of the world, and what better place to put that into practice than in India. With this in mind we'll take on, and take in, all that India's cities, people, music and culture has to offer.”

Australia's contemporary music export initiatives SOUNDS AUSTRALIA and STAGE MOTHERS are partnering with powerhouse Indian music promoter Only Much Louder to present THE AUSSIE BBQ - the biggest showcase of Australian music outside of Australia.

THE AUSSIE BBQ has become a global name in music, made famous over the years by showcasing Aussie bands at music festivals such as SXSW (Austin, Texas), Canadian Music Week (Toronto), Music Matters (Singapore), The Great Escape (UK) and CMJ Music Marathon (New York).

The Aussie bands will kick-start their tour at India’s ‘happiest music festival’ the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune, featuring some of the most exciting artists from India and around the world.

The Sound Chamber, an interactive sound art live experience, will also feature at Bacardi NH7 Weekender with the bands. An inflatable dome measuring six metres in diameter, Sound Chamber allows the user to become the artist in the ultimate audio-visual mash up, where both sound and light react to human movement.

THE AUSSIE BBQ will also be a vehicle for those looking to do business with the Australian music industry. Aussie industry heavyweights are fronting up for the Australian focus at India’s leading music and digital platform Nokia Music Connects.

THE AUSSIE BBQ tour is supported by the Australian Government through the Australia International Cultural Council, an initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
