Australian-Rajasthani musicians to stun Jodhpur RIFF

Australian and Rajasthani musicians will perform together for two dazzling main stage performances at Jodhpur RIFF as part of Oz Fest 2013, the second edition of Australia’s cultural festival in India.

In an unusual first, ‘Maru Tarang’ (ripples of the desert), an organic collaboration between Australian musicians Jeff Lang (award winning singer, songwriter, guitarist) and Bobby Singh (tabla) with Indian musicians Asin Langa (the young and exceptional master of Sindhi Sarangi) and Bhungar Manganiyar (khartal), will be presented at Jodhpur RIFF.

The artists first met in 2011 on a residency at Jodhpur RIFF. At the end of the three days, they felt they had established a strong musical connection and decided to perform together. ‘Maru Tarang’ premiered to rave reviews at the Paramasala festival in Sydney in November 2012. Jeff Lang will present a solo set followed by the Maru Tarang collaboration.

In another musical collaboration, Australian oud virtuoso, Josepf Tawadros, will perform with Afghani robab player Daud Khan Sadozai and classical sarangi player Dilshad Khan.

All these performances are presented as part of Oz Fest, and facilitated and produced by Jodhpur RIFF. Jeff Lang and Bobby Singh are supported by the Australia India Council.
