AUSTRALIA’S GROUP OF EIGHT UNIVERSITIES MAKE GLOBAL TOP 100
Australian universities have again been rated among the best in the world, with eight Australian institutions making the global top 100 – and four making the top 50 – of the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings for 2014.
The eight universities are:
• Australian National University
• The University of Melbourne
• The University of Sydney
• The University of Queensland
• The University of New South Wales
• Monash University
• The University of Western Australia
• The University of Adelaide
The Australian High Commissioner to India, Patrick Suckling, said the rankings demonstrated that Australian higher education institutions were excellent choices for Indian students.
He also noted Australia’s leading Group of Eight Universities had all ranked in the top 100 of this global survey.
“Australia is an internationally recognised provider of quality higher education and research. These rankings demonstrate that Australian institutions are excellent destinations for Indian students and valuable partners for Indian institutions when it comes to research collaboration and faculty exchange,” Mr Suckling said.
“Many students already recognise the quality facilities offered by Australia - over 42,000 Indian student enrolments were recorded at Australian educational institutions in June 2014. That number represents a 21 per cent increase over the same period in 2013, with much of the growth coming in higher education.
“Half of Australia’s 43 universities have a permanent Indian presence, and there are over 390 active links between 33 Australian universities and 250 Indian institutions. These growing links benefit both countries, and I am hopeful that Australia’s continued strong performance will see them expand in the future.”
