Australian artists to create murals in Goa and Delhi
Renowned Australian artists - Fintan Magee and Georgia Hill - will create murals in Goa and Delhi as part of the St+art Festival.
Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Ms. Harinder Sidhu said, “Australia is home to a vibrant street and public art culture. I am delighted that Australian artists are taking part at St+art Festival to not only reinvent public spaces in India but also make Australian art accessible to a wider audience.”
Fintan Magee creates socially and environmentally engaged works, often using personal experiences to describe pressing global issues. Fintan will work on a wall in the Panjim City of Goa, dropping a large-scale mural reflecting the state’s ecosystem as part of the Serendipity Arts Festival 2018 (15-22 December 2018).
Georgia Hill specialises in type-based artworks that combine bold, black and white textures and lettering within experimental compositions. In a unique collaboration as part of St+Art Festival in Delhi (17 January-3 February 2019), Georgia will work with an Indian sign painter to create a mural in the Lodhi Art District in Delhi. She will also conduct a workshop on typography applied to urban art.
Mr Arjun Bahl, Co-Founder & Festival Director, St+art India Foundation, said “We are very glad to have collaborated with the Australian High Commission for Australia Fest 2018. Our aim is to produce a synergy for a cultural exchange between India and Australia that can be experienced by people from different sectors of the society. It is our best interest to bring this interaction to the forefront by giving the artist a stimulating platform to produce art that is reflective of local narratives and micro stories from India.”
Complementing the Australian line-up at St+art Festival is the presentation of Trio, an installation by artist, writer, curator and professor of visual arts at Deakin University, David Cross. The work will be on display at the KONA exhibition space in Lodhi Road, Delhi, from 31 January to 28 February 2019.
Building on Australia’s partnership with the St+Art India Foundation, two well-known Indian artists - Sajid Wajid Shaikh and Munir Bukhari - will take Indian street art to Melbourne as part of the Indian Summer Festival. They will collaborate with local Melbourne street artists to transform a shipping container park into a modern Indian art installation.

The St+art Festival is organised by St+art India Foundation – an organisation working towards making art accessible to a wider audience by taking it out of the conventional gallery space and embedding it within the cities we live in. In the past four years, the foundation has organised eight St+art festivals and numerous public art projects in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Coimbatore creating iconic landmarks within all these cities.
