Australian percussion sensation Ben Walsh returns to India
Australian percussionist Ben Walsh returns with his exciting new show LOOP ZERO designed especially for India - a piece that is conceptually rich and will take audiences between the worlds of multimedia installation and live music performance.
Ben, who has toured India a number of times working with Indian musicians, last performed in Mumbai and Chennai in November 2012 as the musical director of the spectacular ‘Fearless Nadia’. The production marked Australia’s contribution to the celebration of 100 years of Indian cinema as part of Oz Fest - Australia’s biggest cultural festival ever staged in India (16 October 2012-6 February 2013).
“Whenever I premiere a new work there is an energy that is hard to replicate in a seasoned work. The audience will be watching me at a very new stage of exploration and that will mean I will be giving it my all. There is a tension, an excitement to new work that drives me to some of my best performance memories. I can't wait to play it for the Indian audiences”, said Ben Walsh.
LOOP ZERO is an audio-visual explosion exploring humanity, technology and reality. The work is an abstract snapshot of the way we interact as humans and live with machines. Melodic, rhythmic and purely scientific, LOOP ZERO plays with varying notions of how we shape and are shaped by technology in our world past and present. Primal bass-driven beats among a rich tapestry of visual colours and images triggered seamlessly by a solo body onstage.
This show is predominantly inspired by the many odd instruments that spring forth from Ben's imagination and delivers a solid dose of Walsh's trademark high energy drumming style that has taken him around the globe. Ben performs upon instruments of his own creation with technological innovations designed by Machina aka Kim O’Sullivan.
Ben Walsh will perform at blueFROG in Delhi – one of India’s premier live music venues – on 27 June 2013 from 10:00 pm to 11:30 pm. blueFROG is located at The Kila, Seven Style Mile, Mehrauli, Opp. Qutub Minar, Delhi.
Ben, who will be on a five-city India tour from 18 to 29 June 2013, will also perform in Mumbai (19 June 2013), Pune (21 June 2013), Bengaluru (23 June 2013), Hyderabad (25 June 2013) before arriving in New Delhi. He will also conduct workshops with music schools and underprivileged children.
