Catwalk for a cause
A group of high school students from the American Embassy School are inviting Delhiites to dress up their Saturday afternoon with The Benefits of Fashion.
The charity event to be held on 16 March at the Australian High Commission will present student fashion designs on the ramp, and will involve live music, a silent auction and a pop-up boutique with student designs.
The project will raise funds and awareness for women's empowerment, with proceeds donated to The New Generation Trust, an NGO that supports female victims of abuse and poverty across India.
Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Mr Patrick Suckling, welcomed the initiative. "It will be great to see a unique fashion show, where students will wear creations designed by their classmates to raise funds for this great cause,” he said.
Moved by the recent reporting of rape cases in the country, the students have joined hands to make their contribution in the fight against gender-based violence.
Ms Eunice Pamei, spokesperson for The New Generation Trust, said "it is always an honour to be involved with young, creative people, who are passionately pursuing their dreams and want to make a difference. While all of us have the possibility to contribute, only some choose to create opportunities to take a stand for what is just and good."
The charity event is the brainchild of four American Embassy School students – Anja Durston (Australia), Alison Dominguez (United States), Claudia Masegosa (Spain) and Isabella Rahm (Sweden) and forms part of the assessment for their International Baccalaureate diplomas.
The Benefits of Fashion will be held on 16 March 2013 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Australian High Commission, 1/50G, Shantipath, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Entry is by donation of INR 1,000.
