Australian High Commission to host first-of-its-kind Inclusive Blind Cricket Match

The Australian High Commission will host an Inclusive Blind Cricket Exhibition Match on Friday, 20 April, as part its #Development4All campaign.

The match promises to be a thrilling encounter between the Indian Men’s Blind Cricket Team - recent champions of the Blind Cricket World Cup XI - and Foreign Diplomats XI comprising representatives of the Australian, British, and New Zealand High Commissions in Delhi.

Speaking about the match, Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner Mr Chris Elstoft said that this exhibition match aims to promote the importance of inclusion and empowerment of people living with disabilities through sport.

“Overcoming barriers to education, employment and the full and equal participation in life remains a priority of the Australian Government. The recently concluded 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games also hosted the largest para-sports program in the history of the Commonwealth Games,” he added.

Australian High Commission has partnered with Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and Cricket Association for the Blind in India for the event.

The event supports Australia’s #Development4All campaign to encourage the inclusion of people living with disabilities in all aspects of life. In 2016-17, the Australian High Commission’s Direct Aid Program provided support to ten disability-inclusive projects from across India.
