Australian Foreign Minister opens exhibition in Delhi
Australian Foreign Minister, Bob Carr, officially launched the 3D exhibition NOW and WHEN: Australian Urbanism at the India International Centre Annexe yesterday.
Senator Carr was in India for meetings with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Minister of External Affairs, Salman Khurshid.
“NOW and WHEN is presented as part of Oz Fest, Australia’s biggest cultural festival in India, in partnership with the India Design Forum.
“The exhibition presents visions of Australia’s potential urban future in 2050 and beyond.
“It is a 3D audio-visual exhibition with groundbreaking stereoscopic aerial views of Australian cities, open cut mine sites and landscapes of the country’s vast interior,” Senator Carr said.
“I am delighted to launch this exhibition and to be a part of Oz Fest. Oz Fest underlines the fact that India is a natural friend of Australia.”
"I’m very pleased to be able to say that in the last financial year, Australia received more migrants from India than from any other country. For the first time, India emerged as Australia’s greatest source of migration and that’s a terrific thing.”
“I hope this interesting portrayal of Australian urbanism draws more students to come to Australia, but also more permanent migrants” Senator Carr said.
The NOW and WHEN exhibition will be on view at the India International Centre Annexe Gallery, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi from 11 am to 7 pm daily from 22 to 31 January, 2013. Entry is free and the exhibition is open to all.
Oz Fest is the biggest Australian cultural festival ever staged in India.
The Australian Government is working with 24 government, business, institutional and production partners to present over 100 events in 18 locations across India between October 2012 and February 2013.
Oz Fest is the Australia International Cultural Council’s focus country program for 2012-13. For more information on Oz Fest visit: www.ozfestindia.com, www.facebook.com/ozfestinindia or follow us on twitter @OzFestIndia.
