Australia-India Council
Young Media Fellowship
The Australia-India Council’s Young Media Fellowships opened for applications on 28 January 2011.
The AIC Young Media Fellowships provide career development opportunities for promising young Indian print and television journalists in Australia. They also encourage long-term networks between Indian and Australian journalists and media organisations, and expose young Indian journalists to Australia.
The Australian High Commissioner to India, Peter N. Varghese said “journalists in both India and Australia have an important role in shaping our understanding of each other as societies. And there is no better way to understand a country than to visit it and get a direct sense of what makes it tick. This exciting program gives young Indian journalists a chance to gain a richer understanding of contemporary Australia.”
“Programs like these serve to strengthen the people-to-people links between our countries and thereby add depth to the bilateral relationship,” he added.
The AIC will award three Fellowships in 2011, which will each provide a financial grant of AU $7,000 (approx. Rs 3,15,000) to cover international airfares, domestic travel, accommodation and other expenses.
Recipients will spend three to four weeks in Australia researching and writing stories for publication or broadcast in India.
Applications close on 28 February 2011. Application guidelines and forms can be downloaded at: http://www.dfat.gov.au/aic/aic_ymf.html
In 2010, the AIC awarded fellowships to Syed Nazakat Hussain from The Week, and Anahita Mukherjee from The Times of India.
The AIC is part of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Its purpose is to broaden the relationship between Australia and India by encouraging and supporting contacts and increasing levels of knowledge and understanding between the peoples and institutions of the two countries.
