Emil and the Detectives by acclaimed Australian theatre company is all set to premier in India with performances lined up in Delhi and Mumbai from 12 January.

Adapted for the stage by Adelaide-based playwright Nicki Bloom, Emil and the Detectives is based on the 1929 detective novel written by Erich Kästner.

Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Her Excellency Ms Harinder Sidhu, is excited to see the production come to India as part of Australia Fest. “Slingsby’s Emil and the Detectives is an outstanding piece of children’s theatre that tells a fascinating story about the determination of a child. I am delighted that we are able to share this unique experience with Indian audiences.”

Slingsby’s Artistic Director Andy Packer said, “Emil is a journey of discovery and self-discovery, the value of friendships and learning about trust and taking risks. Like most children’s classics, the key themes of the story are as relevant today as when the book was first published and audiences will relate to many of the challenges and decisions Emil faces.”

In Slingsby’s intimate theatrical style, Emil and the Detectives is told by two skilled actors immersed in smoke and mirrors, miniature worlds and a cinematic score. It is a story about young Emil, who is robbed on a train journey. The story progresses with how Emil and a bunch of quick-thinking and resourceful children work together to uncover and outsmart the true criminal.

Suitable for children eight years and above, catch Emil and the Detectives in Delhi at the Siri Fort Auditorium on 12-13 January and in Mumbai at the NCPA Auditorium on 19-20 January. Slingsby will also conduct workshops in Delhi and Jaipur, in collaboration with ThinkArts, a cultural experiences initiative for children and young adults. The Mumbai workshops will be presented in collaboration with Pomegranate Workshops.
