Australian films to feature at 2005 Chennai international film festival

Award winning Australian films will be featured at this year's Chennai International Film Festival from 17-25 December.

“Australian films have proven popular in India and the quirky, original way which Australian film has portrayed the world seems to have found resonance with Indian audiences. We hope that Chennai film lovers will find them appealing,” said the Deputy High Commissioner for Australia in India, David Holly.

“Australia is presenting a large number of films a the Chennai festival as part of the Australian Government's two year AusArts -film, arts, literature promotion in India” Mr Holly added.

The Chennai program, curated by the Australian Film Commission (AFC), features some of the most significant features and shorts produced in Australia in recent years, by such outstanding directors as Sue Brooks, Paul Cox and Alkinos Tsilmidos who will present his film Tom White.

Also included are the Academy Award winning short animation Harvie Krumpet and winner of the Cannes Film Festival Palme D'Or for short film, Cracker Bag.

The Australian Government is proud to present this selection of Australian cinema which shows the diversity and excellence of Australia's film industry. This quality and ambitious program includes comedies, hard-hitting dramas and poignant love stories. From the desert, to the country, to the streets of the inner cities, these films explore love, life, and death and offer audiences a detailed and multi-layered look at Australia and Australian culture.
