Australia brings vocational education opportunities to India

Education fairs in Delhi, Punjab and Ahmedabad

The Australian Deputy High Commissioner to India, Mr. David Holly will inaugurate the Australian Vocational Education and Training mission in Delhi on 15 April 2006.

“This Education Fair is an excellent initiative to showcase the strengths of Australia’s education in the field of vocational education and training,” said Mr Holly. “India’s expanding economy, the growing middle class and an internationally oriented private sector demanding highly skilled workers has catapulted the demand for international education and training,” added Mr Holly.

The fair, a free-of-cost initiative, is being supported by the Australian Trade Commission, will travel to four cities in Punjab (Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Amritsar) & Ahmedabad. It will provide an opportunity to parents and students to meet and interact with 14 prominent Australian institutions and their representatives. Brochures, catalogues and admission forms for several Australian TAFE (technical and further education) providers will also be made available.

Australia has emerged as a leading provider of top quality education to international students from all over the world. In 2005, over 26,000 Indian students were enrolled in Australian universities. VET enrolment in diplomas and advanced diplomas represent around 14 percent of enrolments in 2005, which is a 142.6 percent growth from the previous year.

There is an increased demand for courses in hospitality management, culinary arts, business management, accounting and Biotechnology. New fields of study such as communication studies, art & design and aviation are also fast emerging as preferred courses.

Australia provides a safe and multicultural environment for international students. Australian education offers qualitative and cost-effective learning to students, along with greater flexibility to choose from a variety of programs and courses of interest.

The Australian education fair provides a unique opportunity to know about Australian vocational education as a preferred destination for an increasing number of students.
