Australia reviews India travel advice

The Australian Government today (26 July) reviewed its travel advice for India.

The revised travel advice does not ask Australians to defer travel to India.

It states that Australians considering travel to India should take account of the continuing state of tension between India and Pakistan. The advice notes that some progress has made in reducing tension, but that the situation remains unpredictable and could deteriorate at short notice. The risk of politically-motivated violence remains high.

The advice asks Australians in India to register with the High Commission in New Delhi, closely monitor developments that might affect their safety, and maintain a high level of personal security awareness.

It also advises that Australians should not travel to the border areas between India and Pakistan and should avoid all travel to Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the period leading up to, during and immediately after the forthcoming State elections there.

The Australian travel advice for India was previously updated on 24 June.
The full text of the new travel advice can be found at www.ausgovindia.com (the Australian High Commission website).
