Australian Government announces scholarships for Indian students

The Acting Australian High Commissioner to India, Mr David Holly, today announced the 2007 Australian Government scholarships for India.

The Australian Government offers a range of study and research awards available to candidates in the Asia-Pacific region, including India, under the Australian Scholarships Program.

These awards include the Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) for longer-term post-graduate study in Australia at masters or doctoral level and the Endeavour Scholarships for researchers, executives and students to undertake short or long- term study, research and professional development in a broad range of disciplines.
“Australian Leadership Awards are open to current and emerging leaders, offering an opportunity for high achievers in India to extend their education, strengthen their leadership skills, build networks and develop strategies,” said Mr Holly.

“The Endeavour Program encourages people-to-people exchanges by giving an opportunity to researchers, executives and students in both Australia and India to undertake studies in a range of disciplines."

“Australia is becoming a popular destination for higher education among Indian students and we hope that the awards will add to the growth in our bilateral relations. We hope it will also enable Indian students and scholars to gain useful and productive insights into important areas of learning,” added Mr Holly.

ALA Scholarships are competitive and managed by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). Scholarship recipients would be those who have the potential to assume leadership roles and can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes in their home countries and the region.

The Endeavour Program, managed by the Department of Education Science and Training (DEST), brings to Australia leading researchers, executives and students for short or long-term study, research and professional development in a broad range of disciplines, and enables Australians to do the same in India.
