Australian films to feature at the Kolkata Book Fair Film Festival

Six multi award-winning films of Australian film maker, Rolf de Heer will feature at the Kolkata Book Fair Film Festival on 7 and 8 January 2007.

The films, brought to Kolkata as part of Australia’s participation at the Kolkata Book Fair as focus country, will provide audiences with a snapshot of the diversity of Australian society and the excellence of film-making in the country.

" Australia's participation in the Kolkata Book Fair and the presence of major Australian authors represents the shared English language and literature connections that exist between Australia and India” said the Australian High Commissioner to India, Mr John McCarthy. “We look forward to our participation at the forthcoming Kolkata Book Fair and hope that audience in India will enjoy the range and depth of Australian literature on offer,” he added.

“The showcase of Australian films along with literature is a good opportunity for Australia to offer a closer look at the multi-layered nature of Australian culture and society”, Mr McCarthy added.

Australia’s participation at the Kolkata Book Fair is a part of AusArts India. Australia also recently participated at the Kolkata International Film Festival from 10-17 November 2006 as part of AusArts India – Celebrating Australian art and culture 2006-2007, a two-year cultural promotion program in India supported by the Australian Government.

Australian films, and the work of Rolf de Heer, featured prominently at the International Film Festival of India in Goa, the Chennai International Film Festival and the Kolkata film festivals recently and they will also participate in the Mumbai Festival from 14-28 January 2007.

The Tracker
The Old man who read Love Stories
Dance Me to my Song
The Quiet Room
