Vacancy: Defence Business Manager

The Australian High Commission (AHC), New Delhi, is seeking applications for the position of Defence Business Manager in the Defence section. The position is a Locally Engaged Level 4 position.
Also given below are six selection criteria that the Interviewing Committee will use to assess applicants’ suitability for the position. Applicants must clearly address each of the six selection criteria in a written application no longer than three pages in length. For each selection criteria, applicants must provide specific examples of relevant experience. Applications that do not specifically address the selection criteria will not be considered. Candidates should also submit curriculum vitae and the names and contact details of two professional referees.
Subject to the successful completion of six months probationary period, satisfactory medical check and background verification, the successful applicant will be offered a two-year contract of employment, inclusive of the probation period. The contract may be extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee.
The commencing salary will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The package will include annual leave, limited medical reimbursements, Diwali bonus, provident fund provisions and gratuity provisions when service length is sufficient. The position encompasses a salary in the range of Rs 64, 400 to Rs 87, 100 per month.

About the Department of Defence
The role of the Department of Defence is to promote the security of Australia and protect its people and its national interests. The department forms part of the Australian Defence Organisation (ADO) along with the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Defence has an extensive network of Defence representation overseas. At the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, Defence is represented by a Defence Adviser (military) and First Secretary Defence (civilian).
About the Position
The Defence Business Manager’s prime role is to manage financial and administration within the Defence section and provide business support to the Defence Adviser and First Secretary Defence.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare and manage the annual budget, maintain the office’s financial data, manage and respond to auditing requests from the Department of Defence in Australia.
- Manage the Defence section’s information technology and communications requirements.
- Provide administrative and financial support to Defence personnel (including Defence students) in India, including administering travel and medical entitlements, processing reimbursements, coordinating arrival and departure arrangements and guiding personnel through the posting in and out processes.
- Manage the Defence section’s records, documentation, electronic files and archiving.
- Monitor and approve expenditure, process invoice payments, ensure compliance with financial regulations, perform financial checks, compile financial reports and returns.
- Procure and negotiate goods and services for the Defence Office
- Develop and enhance relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Draft and execute processes and standard operating procedures for the administration of the office.
- Provide back-up support to other Defence staff, particularly for the administration of the Defence Cooperation Program and management of office and residential assets, property, equipment and maintenance.
- Other duties as required by the Defence Adviser and First Secretary Defence, including coordinating visits and assisting with Defence activities and events.
Qualifications/Experience
- Education: Graduate in Commerce / Finance / Business Management is essential and Post Graduate is highly desired.
- Experience: Good Knowledge of finance with 4-5 years’ experience in financial administration.
- Well-developed organizational skills, administrative skills, management skills and good soft skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- An understanding of Australian Commonwealth and Defence audit regulations and procedures is desirable.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. An excellent command of English is required.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and meet deadlines.
- Well versed with the Microsoft suite of products, particularly Excel.
Selection Criteria
