The Australian High Commission, New Delhi, is seeking applications for the position of Community Liaison Officer.

Subject to the successful completion of three month probationary period the successful applicant will be offered a one-year contract of employment under the Locally Engaged Staff (LES) Conditions of Service. The contract maybe extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee. The working hours are flexible, but at least 15 hours is required per week up to a maximum of 20 hours.

The monthly salary will be as per the all India Terms and Conditions of Employment and it is expected the successful applicant will be offered the position at AUD 24 per hour calculated at budget rate.

About the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travelers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the position

The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) is responsible for providing familiarization support and assistance to Australian officers and their families posted to New Delhi and supporting their arrival and departure from post.

Position Duties
  • Liaise with incoming posted officers and relevant corporate staff to facilitate arrivals at post, including providing support and assistance prior to arrival and following their arrival at post.
  • Liaise with the property section and Second Secretary (property) to coordinate a settling in kit, furniture and property needs based on family composition and specific requests of incoming arrivals.
  • Keep SAO informed of arrivals, departures and their status in relation to schooling, housing, health etc.
  • Collect and maintain records, and provide reporting on information relating to local living conditions and personal information relating to posted staff and dependents including the blood group register.
  • Identify and build relationships with relevant stakeholders within the local community including with other Diplomatic Mission, schools and health care providers.
  • Act as a liaison point between posted officers, spouses and dependents, post administration and stakeholder organizations as required, including schools, banks and health care facilities.
  • Carry out orientation programs, including tours of local areas, to assist new arrivals in becoming familiar with available facilities.
  • Assist all officers, spouses and dependents to address matters of personal concern by facilitating access to resources at post, i.e. in the mission and/or the local community or by consulting with the Departmental Staff Counsellor or the Family Liaison Office as required.
  • Prepare and distribute a periodic newsletter and handbook for new arrivals
  • Undertake reporting, administration and other duties as required or directed.

Selection Criteria

  • Ability to communicate effectively with posted officers (including spouses, partners and dependents), post administration, and other key stakeholders.
  • High level interpersonal skills and an ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • High level planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including demonstrated experience with the electronic filing systems and Microsoft Office applications.  Desktop publishing experience is desirable.
  • Experience and understanding of the issues relating to relocating to New Delhi or an overseas environment, particularly from an Australian perspective is highly desirable.
