More Australian students to study in India

The Australian Government’s flagship New Colombo Plan education program will support 890 Australian undergraduate students to study and undertake work placements in India in 2017. In its third year, India remains once again one of the most popular destinations for Australian students.

“Students from 27 universities will study a broad range of subjects including engineering, teacher education, business management, urban design, community health, information technology, nursing and journalism” High Commissioner, Ms Harinder Sidhu, said.

“New Colombo Plan mobility students will return to Australia with new insights and understanding about India and new friendships that will last a lifetime,” Ms Sidhu said.

New Colombo Plan 2017 mobility projects in India include:

IT for Social Impact in India
India Start-Ups and Innovation
Ecotourism development in India – an integrated East/West approach
Addressing Public Health Issues in Southern India

“These are exciting projects that demonstrate the many opportunities for Australian students to deepen their academic and life experiences through study and work placements in India,” Ms Sidhu said.

The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific by supporting Australian undergraduate students to study and undertake internships in the region.
