Important message for Visitor (Tourist stream) visa applicants
With the rising popularity of Australia as a holiday destination, there has been a significant rise in demand for Australian visas in India.
Visitor visa applications received in New Delhi during the first quarter have increased by 32 per cent, when compared with last year, and the trend appears to be continuing.
We warmly welcome this development, but also acknowledge that the actual processing time for Visitor visas in India currently exceeds the global processing time and can take more than 28 days.
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection is working to finalise all applications with a view to returning within the global processing time as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, here are some points to help you manage your travel effectively.
- Apply well in advance of your intended travel date and provide all required information and supporting documentation at the time of lodgement. Australia generally issues Visitor visas with a validity period of 12 months.
- Do not make any travel arrangements until you have been granted your visa, where possible.
- The Department does offer a Priority Consideration service for Visitor visa (subclass 600), however this needs to be requested at the time of lodgement, and there is an additional fee for this service. Details can be found on our website at: http://india.embassy.gov.au/ndli/fasttrack.html.
