The Australian Consulate-General, Mumbai, is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Driver and Office Assistant at the Australian Consulate-General, Mumbai.

A competent level of English and Hindi is mandatory and an ability to speak Marathi, Konkani and/or Gujarati would be desirable. Further information on selection criteria is available on our website http://www.india.highcommission.gov.au.

Subject to the successful completion of six months probationary period, satisfactory medical check and background verification, the successful applicant will be offered a two-year contract of employment, inclusive of the probation period. The contract may be extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee.

The commencing salary will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The package will include annual leave, limited medical reimbursements, Diwali bonus, provident fund provisions and gratuity provisions when service length is sufficient. The salary offered will be in the range from INR 19, 213 to 32, 103 per month.

About the position

Undertake the role of Office Driver and Administrative Assistant at the Australian Consulate-General to assist with Consulate-General staff meeting operational requirements. Drive officers from the Consulate-General and undertake routine deliveries and errands to meet the objectives of the Australian Government in Mumbai.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Driving official vehicles for the Australian Consulate-General to and from any location in Mumbai or anywhere within India.
  • Delivery and collection of items such as invitations, notes, messages, official forms and packages.
  • Driving authorised passengers to meetings and/or other commitments as directed by the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO).
  • Ensure proper maintenance of official vehicles used by the Consulate-General by:
    • Keeping vehicles clean and tidy through normal washing and polishing.
  • Servicing with gasoline, lubricants, coolant, checking battery and performing minor maintenance tasks and repairs.
  • Reporting to the SAO any defects and repairs required in order to keep vehicles in proper road condition and ensuring that repairs are performed.
  • Maintaining accurate log and vehicle records.
  • Assisting with the arrival and departure of official guests and visitors at airports and railway stations.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly VAT returns.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Senior Administrative Officer.

     

Qualifications/Experience

  • Possess the TR or TRANS category on a valid driver’s licence.
  • Previous experience as a driver or similar role is essential.
  • Good written and spoken English. Command of Marathi, Hindi, Konkani or Gujarati would be beneficial.

Note

  • Occupants of this position may be required to work out-of-hours, including on weekends or public holidays, with little or no notice.  Travel outside of Mumbai may be required.

     

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Demonstrated ability and experience as a driver for foreign government or non-government organizations in India.
  2. Demonstrated experience and skills in administrative work. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
